  4. The Lesson I Got

The Lesson I Got

I Add No More To What Is Sad,

I Cherish Lessons That I Had.

Let Trash Be Burned, Nor Drive Me Mad,

For Even Loss May Make Us Glad.

The Wisest Lesson Came From Dad:

"Too Much Of Anything Turns Bad."

When Rain Descends On Fields Of Grey,

The Old Still Know The Hidden Way.

Fear God, Let Justice Have Its Say,

And Never Sell Your Truth Away.

Her Lips May Smile, Then Fade Away,

For Beauty, Too, Must Face Decay.

When Misery Leaves Me Alone,

I Build My Strength From Flesh And Bone.

A Little Nest Becomes A Throne,

Where Tiny Hearts Have Love Alone.

The Berries Ripen, Red And Bold,

While Ancient Branches Just Grow Old.

Hold Fast When Fortune Makes You Cold,

Stand Bold When Fear Your Heart Would Hold.

Never Let Your Conscience Fold,

For Truth Is Worth More Than Gold.

Let Time Turn Rusty Things To Mold,

But Never Let Your Soul Be Sold.
