On 7th August 2026, three defence ministers sat together in Mecca and signed a mutual defence paper. Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan. The city was not chosen just for a photo op, anyone who understands Muslim politics knows why they picked Mecca.
For years I kept writing that Muslim capitals are fed up with outsourcing their security to Washington. That anger has finally become a proper treaty.
The main point is very blunt. The understanding is simple, you mess with one, you mess with all three. That is the bottom line.
Is it a full army alliance? Let's be honest, no, not yet. There is no joint headquarters in Riyadh as we speak. No combined corps. No automatic trigger that Turkish jets will be in the air the next morning. Right now, this is a political warning, not a war machine. We should not oversell it.
But only a fool will call it just paper.
Think about last ten years. A drone worth maybe ten thousand dollars hit Abqaiq in 2019, a plant worth billion. Tankers burning near Hormuz. Air defences looking helpless. What did our old allies do? Statements, a lot of statements, maybe a committee in Congress. If there is a fire in your kitchen at 2 AM, you look for a bucket of water, not a man with a lecture. That is exactly what Riyadh has finally understood.
And frankly this trio makes sense.
Saudi brings money and legitimacy. Last year Saudi defence budget was around 75 billion dollars according to SIPRI. You cannot run long defence programs without that kind of pocket. And being Khadim Harmain Sharifain, they have a weight no one else has.
Turkey brings factories, real factories. Ten years ago they were still trying. Today I have seen their drones in Libya, in Syria, in Ukraine war. Turkey's arms exports tripled between 2020 and 2024 mostly because of Bayraktar drones. Modern war is not about how many generals you have, it is about who can make cheap drones that can kill expensive tanks. Turkey can.
Then Pakistan. We have what no other Muslim country has. A big army, 600, 000 plus, that fought a continuous war for 20 years. Battle hardened officers and nuclear weapons, the only Muslim country to have it.
Now some TV analysts are shouting Pakistan will give nuclear umbrella to Saudi Arabia. This is childish talk, total nonsense. Our nuclear program is for India, period. Doctrine, missiles, command and control, everything is India centric. GHQ will never change that for anyone. It would bring whole world against us. But does presence of a nuclear state in pact change enemy's calculations? Of course, that is common sense.
For MBS, this is part of his big plan. He is tired of just being a buyer. He said openly many times, we want to produce, not just purchase. He wants assembly lines in Neom, he wants Saudi engineers. Turkey and Pakistan are ready to give him that tech without any lecture on human rights. That is why he is interested.
And our own GHQ? They will be very calculated. They respect Saudi Arabia; they have brotherly ties with Turkey. But can we leave eastern border? Can we forget Afghan border? No. Our main divisions will stay where they are. What we can offer is training, intel sharing, technical teams, artillery ammunition. And believe me, that is a huge contribution.
Some people are calling it anti-West bloc. Please grow up. Turkey has not quit NATO; it is still inside. Saudi still hosts US forces. This is not against America. This is just Plan B. Every smart nation keeps a Plan B for a rainy day.
So, what happens next?
America is confused. For 30 years they told allies do more, pay more. Now when three allies are actually doing it without them, Washington is worried about losing control.
You can use all the sweet diplomatic words you want; Iran will still see this as a Sunni gang-up against its missiles and its proxy groups. And once it gets that Sunni label, it will just rub salt on the old Shia-Sunni wound, the same wound that finished Iraq and Syria.
Israel? Mixed feelings. Weak Iran is good news for Tel Aviv, but Turkish military footprint expanding in Arab world? That will give them sleepless nights.
Russia? Putin's whole game was to be friend of everyone. Friend of Iran, friend of Turkey, friend of Saudi. Now that game is finished.
And two players many missed, China and India. China will be quietly happy. Beijing is already biggest buyer of Saudi oil and biggest investor in Pakistan through CPEC. Any setup that reduces American dominance in Gulf suits Beijing. India on other side will watch it with serious concern. In Delhi any military link between Pakistan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia is seen through one lens only, Kashmir and OIC.
I always say treaties don't win wars, factories win. Signing ceremony is easy part. Hard part is can Saudi riyal, Turkish brain and Pakistani hand make one common bullet? One common radio link? Even NATO needed almost fifty years to decide what Article 5 really means in practice. This pact has only one sentence. Without clear rules on cyber, drones with no flag, and proxy militias, it will collapse in first real crisis.
For now, I will call it a political turning point, not yet a full military shield.
But one thing is 100 percent clear to me. The old order where America was the sole security guarantor in Muslim world, that order is dead, finished. And for first time, Muslim powers are trying to write their own rules.
